Pola Tooth Whitening

Why Whiten?

Teeth whitening has become one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatments because of its fast and pain-free way of improving your smile. Teeth can become discolored over a period of time, especially if you're a smoker or regular consumer of staining foods and drinks such as coffee, black tea, red wine, or soda. Some people have naturally dark teeth.

A whiter, brighter smile can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, and tooth whitening has become one of the most accessible ways to do just that. At Colonial Dental Group, we have recently started to offer a very effective tooth whitening system called Pola.

What is Pola?

The Pola Advanced Tooth Whitening system is made by an Australian company called SDI and marketed in the U.S. and other countries. It comes in five forms to give people plenty of choice. The form for in-office use is called Pola Office+ and we also offer a take-home form of Pola.

Pola Office+ uses hydrogen peroxide as the active bleaching agent. It works very quickly. Your treatment takes just 25 minutes, instead of the hour or so required by other brands of in-office tooth whitening. It removes discoloration caused by aging, some medications, tobacco, and colored foods and drinks like coffee, red wine or blackberries.

To reduce possible tooth sensitivity, Pola Office+ has a neutral pH – it is neither acidic nor alkaline. This gives you a comfortable treatment with no anxiety or pain. A very few people do report some discomfort but it is short-lived.

In-office Application

After checking your teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy enough for tooth whitening, your cosmetic dentist will spread the Pola Office+ whitening gel over your teeth. No activating light is needed to break down the hydrogen peroxide.

As it breaks down, it allows oxygen to enter your teeth and change the chemical construction of any staining substances. This bleaches the enamel and the layer beneath it, called the dentin. We will finish up the procedure with a five-minute fluoride treatment, which helps further against teeth sensitivity.

Because Pola Tooth Whitening penetrates beneath the enamel to the dentin, it gives you dramatic results. In that short half-hour or so, your teeth will be brightened by many shades to transform your smile.

At-home Application

The take-home application we offer is called Pola Day and also uses hydrogen peroxide as the whitening agent. Pola Day can be used at work or during any normal daily activities.

Your cosmetic dentist will have customized trays made for you, upper and lower. They will fit snugly over your teeth and keep the whitening gel evenly distributed over them. This will give you even and beautiful results.

We will show you how to use the take-home kits. It is very easy. The whitening gel comes in a supply of syringes and you place a little of the gel into each tooth shape of your trays. Then place the trays over your teeth and leave them there for the period of time that we will recommend.

The effects of tooth whitening can last several years, but this depends on what you eat and drink, whether or not you smoke, and how diligent you are at maintaining your teeth's whiteness.
