Porcelain Fillings
In Chicago and surrounding areas
Today's porcelain fillings provide a strong, long lasting, and natural looking alternative to the traditional amalgam fillings of the past that could mar your beautiful smile with dull, dark colored fillings.
Our porcelain inlays and onlays are designed to look and perform just like natural teeth. In the past, porcelain fillings were only used on the visible front teeth, as older style tooth colored fillings weren't durable enough to withstand the extensive biting and chewing, as required for back teeth.
Today's porcelain fillings use advanced new technologies, however, that allow your dentist to cure and harden the tooth surface, so every tooth can look healthy and natural.
The Procedure
The procedure for porcelain fillings is similar in many ways to having a tooth filled the old fashioned way. Done in the course of a two office visits, your porcelain fillings will provide you with a beautiful restoration.
The first step in the procedure is to prepare the tooth. Your dentist will remove any decay and carefully etch the surface of the tooth to receive the porcelain composite.
Once your tooth is ready, your dentist will take a mold of the cavity area. This mold will then be sent to a dental lab so that your custom porcelain filling can be created.
After the mold has been taken, the dentist will fill your cavity with a temporary filling to stop any discomfort caused by the cavity and allow you to live and eat normally.
When the porcelain filling has been created, it will be sent back to the dentist office, and you will be invited back to have the temporary filling removed, and the permanent filling placed and permanently bonded to your tooth.
