Features of an Award-Winning Smile
Serving Chicago and surrounding areas
A happy and genuine smile is always pleasing but if you also have cosmetically well-cared-for teeth and gums, your happy smile will be beautiful indeed. A high-quality smile has some features that a good cosmetic dentist can give you, regardless of where you start from.
Good Balance
Sometimes the teeth have naturally mis-matched sizes – they just grow that way. Our cosmetic dentists can assess that and determine how it might be addressed.
- Sometimes a tooth can be resized by means of a porcelain crown
- Porcelain veneers can replace all the front surfaces of teeth that are visible when you smile and give them a beautiful even line
- Dental bonding can extend one or two teeth to better match their neighbors
Harmonious White Color
Our teeth become darker and more yellow as we age, but they can be brightened up with an in-office tooth whitening procedure. Sometimes the staining is uneven which increases an uneven appearance in your smile, but once they have all been whitened, your smile can look far more harmonious and no further work may be necessary.
An Even Gum Line
In some people, the gum tissue extends further over some teeth than over others. This creates an uneven line to the smile, but it is an easy defect to correct. Our cosmetic dentists can use our soft tissue laser to quickly remove unwanted pieces of gum tissue. This would give a smooth look to your smile, with the line of teeth curving evenly. Please see Soft Tissue Laser Recontouring for more on how this is done.
No “Gummy Smile”
Another gum defect is that the gums extend too far down on all the top teeth, creating a “gummy smile”. It makes the teeth look too short. This defect is also easily corrected with our soft tissue laser.
An attractive smile must first be a healthy smile. If you have any decay or gum disease, it must be corrected before any cosmetic dentistry can be performed. You can read more at Gum Treatment FAQs.
No Metal Fillings or Crowns Visible
A dark grey metal filling or a gold alloy crown can mar an otherwise beautiful smile. In these days of high-tech cosmetic dentistry, no-one need live with these dental defects. Our cosmetic dentists can replace your metal fillings with porcelain fillings, and there are many advantages to this besides your smile’s aesthetic appearance.
White fillings are bonded to the tooth they fill, holding it together by pulling inward on the tooth’s periphery. On the other hand, metal fillings weaken the tooth by pushing outward. Further, the metal expands and contracts with hot and cold foods, putting continual stress on the tooth enamel.
Gold crowns are durable but they certainly do not match the rest of your teeth. A porcelain crown will blend in so well that nobody will know you have a crown.
At Colonial Dental Group, we provide top-quality dental care that will both strengthen your dental health and beautify your smile. These goals are in perfect harmony.
