LVI Trained Cosmetic Dentist
Serving Chicago and surrounding areas
Chicago, Illinois was my birthplace, but we moved to the suburb of Northbrook very early in my life when the town was much smaller. I attended school in Northbrook and have lived the majority of my life in the Glenview/Northbrook area, graduating from Glenbrook North High School. There have been many changes in the north suburban towns over the years, and it has been interesting to witness the growth and development.
After high school, I attended St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin for four years. At that time, my great uncle was one of the few dentists in Northbrook, and I was inspired by him and made my decision to pursue dentistry. Subsequent to obtaining my undergraduate degree, I went on to Loyola University School of Dentistry, earning my dental degree in 1976.
It was my good fortune to be mentored by one of the finest dentists in Illinois, Dr. B. Paul Justen. I joined his practice in 1976 when I was fresh out of dental school. Dr. Justen was a great leader in the dental profession and was respected by colleagues and patients alike. His warm rapport with patients, attention to detail and leadership in the dental profession were all qualities I admired and tried to meld into my character traits.
During this time I also held a faculty position at Loyola Dental School in the specialty of endodontics. Recognizing all the energy it takes to run a successful dental practice, by then I was also pleased to enlighten senior students as to what might lay ahead for them in the dental profession.
About this time I was blessed to meet and eventually marry, my wife, Linda. We made Glenview our home, and over the years we have had three children, Christie, David and Jim. They were all raised in Glenview, taking advantage of all that this community has to offer in the way of schools, park district activities and strong friendships.
Having reaped so many wonderful experiences in the Glenview/Northbrook area during my life, I felt the need to give back to the community through volunteering for numerous civic activities as I could. I’ve always enjoyed baseball, and acted as a baseball coach on and off for thirty years. Additionally, I spent some time as a soccer coach and a football
coach.
Our local service clubs add so much to the health of our community, and I was able to serve through the United Way of Glenview, Glenview Youth Services, and the 4th of July Celebration Committee. My wife, Linda, served as the Past President of the Lyon/Pleasant Ridge PTA, as well as the Glenview Library Association. One of my greatest endeavors in the area of education was acting as Chairman of the Glenview School District 34 Task Force in the early 1990’s
With two doctors working side by side, Dr. Justen and I were able to fine-tune our practice. In 1984, I took over the reins in directing the practice and became responsible for the growth and development of the practice into its present form. Dr. Justen was, by far, the single largest and strongest influence on my dental career. He mentored me and then allowed me to blossom. Through his guidance, I feel proud to have developed our practice into one of the finest offices in the Chicago area.
Over the years I have been privileged to hold many positions in the Chicago Dental Society and the Illinois State Dental Society, as well as chair positions for the Chicago Dental Society Mid Winter Meeting. I am also now a clinical instructor at the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. I’ve been honored to be have served in every position in the North Suburban Dental Branch of the Chicago Dental Society, including president.
One of the best ways to pool new information is by sharing time with colleagues. As a member and past-president of the Sanders Dental Research Group I have been able to glean tips and new ideas from my co-members in this oldest ‘traveling dental study club in the United States’. In addition, I have benefited from being a longtime member of the American Dental Association and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
With our children grown, my wife and I have been able to spend more time engaging in our hobbies and interests. I am an avid skier, golfer, as well as a baseball and football fan. My greatest joys, however, stem from being an active and involved father and husband.
I am also proud to be a full graduate of the Las Vegas Institute (LVI) and an LVI clinical instructor. The training by this institute is rigorous, and involves bringing along a patient and my assistant for actual casework and my hands-on type of education. It is just another way for me to ensure that we provide the high level of cosmetic dentistry and results my patients deserve.
